A wonderful castle
Departure from Varenna, stop at the small village of Corenno Plinio, aggregated since 1927 to the larger Municipality of Dervio. Characterized by the wonderful castle built in the fourteenth century. on the remains of an ancient fortress, it also includes the presence of a church built in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. and dedicated to St. Thomas of Canterbury.
A real paradise
A must is the Abbey of Piona, where the Cistercian monks have created a real paradise with their work, surrounded by olive trees and orchards. The church, with an irregular plan, is dedicated to S. Nicolao and its construction dates back to the 11th century, even if it was actually built on the ruins of a previous one, which dates back to the 7th century.
Unmistakable scents
The itinerary continues in Valtellina with a visit, lasting 4 hours, to the Black Cellars, where excellent quality wines are produced, including a special mention to the famous “Sfursàt”, aged in oak barrels, with unmistakable aromas . Lunch will be eaten during the visit.
